The Norwood Village Green Concert Series concluded its 37th annual season with a special season ending benefit concert presented by The Riverside Brass Quintet. The concert was given on Thursday, August 19th at 7 pm in St. Andrew’s Church. The event was added to an already full season of concerts and was a generous gift to the series by the members of the Riverside Brass Quintet.
The series attendance was more than 16,000 for the year. Thanks to everyone of our audience members and to all of our performers and especially thanks to a generally cooperative weatherman. "Get me good weather and I’ll run a successful outdoor concert series”. We got good weather. On Thursday, June 17th the legendary Canadian blues band, Downchild, drew the 5th largest audience in the history of the Norwood Village Green Concert Series. Audience attendance is based on the “pass the bucket”. The five all time attendance concerts in numerical order were The Family Brown, The Glenngary Bhoys, C.J. Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band, Rory Block and The Downchild Blues Band. Three of the top five were Canadian groups, while three of the groups or individuals were blues based, one group was country and the other was Celtic. We honored our symbolic 500,000th audience member as the series reached this special milestone. The honoree was Roger Bailey of Canton selected by lottery. Roger received a wonderful package of gift certificates donated by many local merchants including 1844 House, Scoopuccino's, The Timber Tavern, Jernabi Coffee, Sabad's, the Leaner Weiner Hot Dog Stand, Laurie's Casual Cuts, Potsdam Agway and Heart and Hearth. All of our financial goals were reached and surpassed. Thanks to all of our contributors for making this possible in these serious economic times. We are currently working on the 38th annual season schedule and it will be posted on this website sometime in January. It promises to be another outstanding season. |
